Of Beige, Gold, Flappers, Lasalle Reunions and Life

~~~
So in love with this top. Alas, I accidentally yanked out two beads today and now I'm terrified the rest are going to fall out. Why do my garments always gravitate towards the nearest sharp, protruding object in the immediate vicinity? Am going to see if my seamstress can sew them back on. =(
I've been digging floaty, delicate beige and gold pieces lately, and flapper era-esque dresses. There's a dainty Chloé one I found that's very subtle, with light sprinklings of sequins and a hint of a flapper silhouette, and a Miu Miu top (also conveniently a golden beige) that has teeny tiny little pleats and gathers, a sheer chiffon panel at the top, and bead work.
Today, I attended a mini reunion with some old drama school classmates from Lasalle College of the Arts. It was interesting to say the least, as they weren't all necessarily the people I hung out with while we were at college, and I probably learnt more about a couple of them today than I did during all our college years combined. We went cafe and restaurant hopping from 2 or 3 in the afternoon till 10.30 at night, and midway, we realised it would be super to work together. So we wound up kickstarting a little film project that I hope takes off, as it sounds like a massive amount of fun, and a great creative outlet.
Am quite excited about a bunch of film and theatre projects I have lined up right now. Everything is falling into place quite quickly and I'm bathing in that lovely feeling of being inspired.
Pomegranate
Some photographs I took of a pomegranate I ate...
I find it interesting that in the Greek myth of Persephone, the pomegranate is called the fruit of the underworld. However, in the Muslim Koran, it's called the fruit of paradise.
The 90s Revisited and Updated
~~~

I nearly named this blog post, "When I Grow Up, I Want To Be Melisa Auf der Maur". Well... once upon a time anyway, before I came to terms with the fact that my hands are too tiny to ever play bass guitar with any measure of skill beyond mediocrity.

This dress always reminds me of my grunge phase in the 90s - listening to mixed tapes with Babes In Toyland, Sonic Youth and Hole on a beaten up Sony walkman, hanging out at the stone benches outside Far East Plaza (yes, I am ashamed) and getting dressed up in babydoll dresses teamed with chunky boots, complete with heels that could have doubled up as a class 5 weapon, and badly applied lipstick (not to appear more grungey but because I was just bad at applying lipstick) - all the while wishing I was as cool as Melissa Auf der Maur, Kim Gordon and Kat Bjelland. I actually had a cream-coloured dress almost exactly like this one, except with cap sleeves and different lace.

These photographs were actually taken on the same day as my last vlog but I've been too lazy to upload them till now. Elise wanted to see the whole outfit though, so there you go, E. The photo of the Mary Janes is a little bit shite coz I was also too lazy to find a better angle. It's a recurring theme in my lazy life.

After having watched all four seasons of Weeds in three days, I'm currently dying for the new season to begin. I want to know what happens with Nancy and Esteban, damnit.

The Andrews Sisters

~~~
Just wanted to share my love of The Andrews Sisters. Some days, I think I was born in the wrong era, for in a fair number of fantasies, I am an Andrews Sister with Dean Martin and Bing Crosby on the phone, keen to duet. I also party with the Rat Pack in Vegas and boogie woogie like a beast. In other flights of fancy, I am one of The Supremes. This may explain my addiction to big hair. You know what they say... the higher the hair, the closer to heaven.
The following clip is from the 1941 film, Buck Privates. Patty Andrews is adorable.
FOUR MORE SONGS
Music Playlist at MixPod.com
1. Tico Tico
This is one of my favourite songs in the world.
2. Shortnin' Bread
I fell in love with this when I was a little girl, after hearing Donald Duck sing it while making pancakes in an old school 1940s Disney cartoon that we had on video. Of course, the sisters do it better than the duck.
3. Beer Barrel Polka
Adore the Andrews' version, as well as Billie Holiday's.
4. Rum And Coca Cola
The fact that this was co-written by a man named Lord Invader just makes this track ten more shades of awesome. Oddly enough, it's about prostitution and booze.
